seeking mason to make mantel
I am looking for a stone worker to make a very simple mantel for our (nonworking) fireplace. Preferably someone with a good design sense who can help us figure out what it should look like.Any suggestions? Also does anyone know of a stone salvage place where I could get materials? Thanks.

thanks for the suggestions.
I have access to about 20 mostly italianate brownstone mantels for sale. This would probably be cheaper and nicer than having a mason make one from scratch.

would you entertain cast concrete as an option?

He has done several nice mantels.
I would recommend that you contact Manny Lasalle. Manny has a collection of fireplaces which he has been buying from various salvage people, including Eddie Hibbert (who you probably want to get you know on your own – wonderful man who has a salvage place on Green, corner of Grand – 12-6, Tues-Sat).
Manny can reassemble these historic fireplaces for you and also do whatever work you need to make the fireplaces functional. He has done a lot of work for me, including assembling the pieces of several marble fireplaces I bought in pieces (from Eddie Hibbard) and installing them beautifully and at a good price. He is a very nice man to work with. Eddie used to sell a lot of fireplaces but Manny bought most of them, though I think Eddie may still have some. Why spend the substantial money to get someone to make a new one when you can get historic origanls for less money. Manny’s number is 917-292-1825. Good luck.
