powder coating metal table
I just bought a copy of a Saarinen tulip table. The aluminum base is in rough shape–quite scratched and apparently rusty. What’s the best way to make it look sleek and fresh? Do I need to have it powder-coated? Sandblasted first? Is it worth the trouble for a knock-off?

The guys next door to me do powder coating as well as sandblasting. Ever-nu metal on 20th Street b/t 8th and PPW.
Call Simon at Avant Guard in Bushwick
They can sand blast and powder coat

Apartment Therapy has had a few articles on aluminum leaf, which might be an interesting (if not true to the original) way to deal with it. Otherwise, Try talking to an autobody shop. Especially if it comes apart easily, they can probably spruce it up for you.
I don’t think it is too much trouble at all if what you’ve got in the end is a table that makes you happy.
