I have just installed a new under counter dishwasher (an LG) but the mounting hardware at the top does not line up with the holes drilled in the underside of the countertop from the old machine. Does anyone have suggestions as to how I can secure the machine without having to drill new holes in my Corian countertop. also, the width of the space for the machine is a little too wide, so when I screw it in from the sides, it wobbles.
Thanks to all for your ideas, especially Bob Marvin. I took your advice to screw a block of wood to the old holes and it worked like a charm!
Corian is just plastic. Drilling new holes sounds *way* easier than cobbling together an alternative.
1. Use a sharp, new twist bit, and measure desired depth for your mounting hardware screws and put a piece of tape around the bit at that measurement so you don’t go further than you want and wind up with a hole in the top of the counter.
2. Put some masking tape on the Corian around where you want the holes to go, and mark your final measurements on the tape. (tape protects the corian from chips and is also much easier to write on than corian)
3. Use a low speed, so that you’re not generating too much heat.
4. Practice in a piece of scrap if you are feeling unconfident.
Instead of clamping the wood strip you might try screwing it to the underside of the countertop, using the original holes.
Measure the void you need to fill and make a strip of wood that size. Use some liquid nails and glue and clamp the wood to the underside of the countertop. Once it’s dry you can screw the dishwasher to the wood.
