Uh-oh. Renters are revolting over the fact their tax dollars are going to be used to bail out bad mortgages.

  1. Renters can be angry with homeowners if they like. But then should the childless be angry at those with kids because of property tax revenues spent on schools? Should the healthy resent the sick because of medicare and medicaid. Should those who would never consider serving their country resent the veterans of an all-volunteer army for coming home wounded from Iraq and Afghanistan? Taxes aren’t fair, bailouts aren’t fair, life isn’t fair. Oh wait a minute, there’s a thought — maybe it’s time for some people to go get a life.

  2. Your post made sense, but don’t encourage him. It’s a waste of time. He’ll argue with someone on the same side of the argument as he is.

  3. Hannible – As usual I am perplexed by your seemingly nonsensical repsonse…

    A. I am not a landlord so I will not be enjoying rents from the likes of anyone, assisted or not.

    B. I dont own a car, or go to Atlantic City at all.

    C. I am very gainfully employed, often working more than 50 or 60 hours per week – But that is my choice and I compensated well for it.

What do you do for a living Hannible? Your profile says “Engineer”,but I seriously doubt you could engineer your way out of a paper bag.

  4. Aw what ashame homeowners will not be able to raise rents anymore because we will all have free assisted living soon. No more driving to Atlantic City in your new car newsouthsloper. Time for you to go look for a job and wok.

  5. “Now that those of us who have been making steady, on-time payments on our mortgages for years will be paying off others’ mortgages through our taxes, can we claim a tax-deduction for our neighbors’ mortgage interest too?”

  6. Yet for all the weeping and wailing over rc/rs, adn section 8 and pj’s, the vast majority of apt.s in NYC are not rc/rs, nor are the maority of renters section 8 or in rc/rs apartments. People living in public housing do pay rent. Each side gets breaks and each side gets a shot of financial unfairness.

  7. Newsouthsloper,
Yeah, I figured I might be asking for trouble posting such a thing in a New York forum, considering how ass-backwards our rental regs are.
Yet still I rent! Of course, it bugs me that I’m sitting like a vulture over this market waiting to make a move and the gubbmint’s gonna come in and shore up some of these losers instead of letting them fall on their faces so that folks like me can get some halfway decent deals.
    Oh well.

  8. Great – I am angry about all of my tax dollars being spent on section 8, subsidized housing, rent stabilization boards, rent control, housing projects, etc.

    What petition can I sign?

BTW – These angry renters do have a point, we all are getting hosed for the sake of “The Health of the Economy”

I should have stretched for that 900K condo a few years ago instead of settling for something more affordable. I could be getting bailed out now and stay in my luxury home instead of living more modestly for the same money.

But I digress – I know this topic has already been beaten to death over and over.
