I just realized that the dryer in my brownstone is not venting to the outside (there is no hose attached to the vent on the back of the dryer). Recognizing this is a fire hazard, I need to do something asap; either have a professional come look at if/how venting to the outside can be done or get a self-venting machine. Venting to the outside might be difficult given the location of the machines (it would be easiest to vent upwards, which is a no-no, versus sideways or down). I would also imagine an all-in-one self-venting machine isn’t as effective as having a separate washer/dryer. Of course the third, most environmentally option, would be to hang everything to dry.

Any suggestions? Can anyone recommend a professional individual/company to have a look?

  1. Dave- a paste of Snowy Bleach and and enyzme booster works wonders on sweat stains. Mix it with hot water, spread liberally on the stains and roll up the shirt stick it in a plastic bag for a few hours or even overnight. Wah in hot water.Bleach can actually make those stains more yellow.

Poor, Biff….his posts never qualify for QOTD and even his forum threads aren’t good enough for the main page…hee hee hee.

    Okay, another one.
I don’t use bleach, I ruined too many colored fabrics by accidentally spilling.

For your whites with those hard to remove sweat stains.

Take a large pot, fill it with water, add baking soda, put it on cooktop, turn on heat and yes, start bringing it to a boil. Add your whites (I usually do a few at a time). Keep stirring for maybe about 20 minutes. You can add a little bit of bleach if you’d like, but add it at the end. At that high temp. the bleach will eat away at the fabric.

After about 20 minutes, take out the clean whites from the boiling water. I have another pot or a big bucket in the sink and drain the hot whites in there, let them cool before handling.

Any other laundry problems I can address!
Men are helpless with out a good woman 🙂

  4. DIBS…get a picture of your Bosch washer, get a picture of Bleach with a big ‘X’ through it and start your own forum thread asking that question…or better yet, take out the manual and call the Support Number provided…or, how about this for giggles, go on-line and find your answer, Bosch has a website and I’m sure they provide support.

Geez, you guys with your laundry problems are pathetic.

Biff, can’t figure out if he’s electric or has gas, and now is he’s lacking in chemistry.

DIBS, now revels he needs his boxer briefs a bit whiter.

btw – seriously, I wouldn’t use bleach. Try adding a handful of baking soda to your load, good on colors also. It brightens and freshens everything.
