Any suggestions for where to look for this kind of item or tips on installation?
Thanks.
Thanks for all for the info and the offers — after thinking it through some more we have decided to open up that fireplace and so we don’t need the cover after all. Thanks everybody.
Somehow, I don’t think that is Manny Lasalle – Manny specializes in fireplaces, flues, chimneys, everything to do with making them beautiful and functional (and safe). But he has a lot of skills and has helped me with some roof stuff (broken chimney by a storm) and some masonry. His child is school age….
Agreed if so, DIBS, he did the ironwork on my deck as well. Good guy, though a bit fuzzy on configuration of spirals.
donatella…is this Manny the same one who built the steel deck structure for me through Sketch and Hammer??? If he is, which I assume he is, he’s great. I love the back and forth swearing between him and his son!!!!
Oh and to clarify, Eddie is the estimable Mr. Edward Hibbert, owners of Eddie’s furniture, retired NYC Fire Marshall, purveyor of every imaginable piece of salvage every to be found inside or outside a brownstone, including doors, windows, furniture, and other stuff like chandeliers, stained glass, pier mirrors, staircases, etc. etc. Great prices and Eddie is a rare individual. You must get to know him.
This is where you go — first you have to see Eddie. You don’t know EDDIE? Eddie is the best person you could befriend in renovating your house. He owns the architectural salvage place on Greene, corner Grand and he is open 12-6 daily, closed Sunday and Monday. He has tons of these kinds of covers and every other imaginable piece of salvage to make the fireplace perfect. Please go to see him. 224 Greene Ave. (btw. Grand and Classon Ave.), 917-627-3170.
Then to do the installation, which could involve a little soddering and/or other adjustments, contact Manny Lasalle. Manny knows everything there is to know about fireplaces. He put mine together from pieces I bought from Eddie and added a few pieces which were missing, arranged for some iron work to be soddered, had my hearth stones dipped in a chemical bath to remove stains. Manny knows what he is doing. If you want Manny to do anything with fireplaces — install them, fix them, make them functional (and safe) rebuild flues, fix chimneys, etc. Call Manny and also google him on Brownstoner. 917-292-1825
Park Place,
If Steve can’t use your piece then I would be interested. I have some beautiful square surrounds if anyone needs them. But I still need a few arched ones. Thanks. My email is andrecom@earthlink.net
It’s called a Summer Cover. Some of the antique shops along Atlantic Ave will have them. I believe I have one in my basement that I removed to open up a fireplace. I’ll look to see if it’s oval bnut I think it’s square.
What are the dimensions you need?
You can have it. Email me at bklynsocialclub@yahoo.com
Thanks Park Place. I will post the measurements tonight or tomorrow.
