We have a Kohler bathtub (all plumbing is new) with a trip lever that connected to the drain/bathplug mechanism. I removed the stopper and now I can’t put it back in. Something has jammed the mechanism and I don’t know what it is. Right now, the tub is draining very, very slowly. So far, I have used a plunger, auger and mechanical fingers.

Who do I call? Will the plumber have to remove the entire tub to fix the problem?

  1. the worst case scenario is that the awful linkage will have to be replaced…i had a client who bought the drop in from waterworks that this happened to, and he had a real hard time believing that at the pricepoint that he paid (about 2g), there would be problems…guess what ..cost does not equal quality

  2. The pop-up drain stopper assembly on the Tea For Two is a bit of a pain in the neck and has been known to cause some problems which are not easily remedied.
There is a large spring assembly that sits in the drain and moves the stopper up and down that collects hair and soap deposits like crazy, slowing the drain.
The good part is that if you can figure out how to remove and clean that spring yourself every couple of months or so, that stuff won’t collect in the drain. You would pull it off the spring and throw it in the trash instead.

The problem with that is every time you remove the stopper you are faced with the challenge of reinstalling it and getting it to sit properly again.
It can be incredibly difficult and frustrating at first but you may eventually get the hang of it.

    Hope that helps.

  3. not to hijack the original topic, but MP, are there drainage issues with the Tea for Two tub? we have one and have had sporadic clogs/slow drain issues ever since it was installed.

  4. It’s not a Tea for Two – has the bow-tie shape thing in the middle. It’s either a Kathryn or Mariposa or Dynametric 5’5″ tub. Can you help me? How do I contact you?

I tried unscrewing the bow-tie thing, but it’s impossible.

  5. I had a similar situation caused by broken linkage. You’ve tried the normal tools. Your plumber might have something better (mine did, but still wasn’t able to grab the piece). In the end, we had to retrieve it via pipes underneath the tub.
