I’ve always had fantastic water pressure in my shower at my apartment. However, I went away for the holidays and when I got back the water pressure was SO low. I’ve tried showering at different times, so it’s not that a neighbors shower is affecting mine. What could it possibly be?

  1. Any luck in the last week?

It could be frozen pipes, but I think it’s likely someone was constructing on digging on your street/block, or it could be system-wide problem like many leaks (not necc. in your place because you’d have noticed those) or buildup of minerals and such in the pipe(s) called “tuberculation” -it reduces the room inside the pipe.

I did some Googling and found these links that might help:

Maybe your building’s management would call them?

These guys sponsor a blog where they take quesions like yours: http://www.pipeproblems.com/ –you can ask them, maybe they can give you a more tech answer.

Please post whatever the resolution is! Good luck!

  2. Screw the showerhead off and see if you have greater pressure. Should unscrew off with hands. Otherwise use a plier with a rag arount to not scrape the showerhead. If it does increase then just get another showerhead.

  3. Yes, it’s just the shower. It’s both the hot and the cold. Not a very nice wake up call in the morning!! I’ll check with my neighbors to see if anyone is experiencing the same thing and also try to clean off the shower head.

    Thanks!

  4. Check with your neighbors to see whether they are experiencing the same problem, and also ask whether there was digging on your street or other repairs while you were gone.

  5. Or, if the pipes were worked on, sediment may have been lossened and is clogging up your shower head. Take it off and see .. may be all it needs.
