Also, I’d be interested to know if any other building has dealt with resident requests to reclaim the dumbwaiter space during renovation. Currently, the dumbwaiter is decommissioned in my building and a 3×3 area is sealed up in each kitchen. Many people want to reclaim this space, but it could be valuable as a conduit that runs from basement to roof. Any ideas?
Who cares about future conduits?
Use all the damn space. . . every last inch!
We are planning to use our dumbwaiter space as closets or just shelving, as it’s right at the end of the staircase. but the space is so big (also 3×3 I think), that the back portion we will leave available for conduits.
So, yes, I would keep that space in the back for future conduits, and use the rest.
