  1. I see you have a “joseph Spector” safe. That’s j. Spector of 324 Grand Street. They were distributors of safes, not makers. I know this because I have an old “Joseph Spector” safe in my home in Windsor Terrace. I am refurbishing mine but fortunately I have the combination. I have learned a few things since getting involved with old safes. First, you must expect to pay a minimum of $300 to get your safe open and you should ask for a firm quote and a guarantee that they will get it open. As to how they open the safe, that should be flexible. They will try to manipulate the safe first and then drill small holes to get the combination. To restore the safe after that, expect to invest about $700. And I have found out there is no market for old safes. The value of your safe now, with the door locked is $0. But if you get it open and it can be restored, go for it! I love my old safe, I don’t care if it isnt worth much.
