I’m an architect and I’m working on a project in Windsor Terrace in which we will be taking down an existing brick garage to make way for a new building. We’ll have lots of old brick to bring to a dump. I’d love to find a better use for them. If you want a lot, I could arrange a drop off, or I might be able to open up the site to people who want just a few.

This will likely happen within the next week or two.

  1. This is the original poster, here. I’m happy to say that we’ve been overwhelmed by the response. I was not expecting so much interest. Silly me. I was hoping to cut down on the amount of materials going to a landfill, and reduce the contractor’s cost for getting rid of the debris. Unfortunately, this is beginning to look like a coordination nightmare.

If I ask the contractor to make many stops to drop the stuff off, it’s going to cost him more time and money than it would have just to dump it.

On the other hand, I can’t have people coming and climbing around the job site or in the dumpster rummaging for the best bricks, making a mess of the site and most importantly, potentially putting themselves or others at risk of getting hurt.

I have kept all of your emails, and will continue to do so, however, I cannot promise anything at this point. I am trying to determine what is the fairest and safest way of distributing the bricks. I think that may have to be limiting them to people who want the largest quantity, so we can limit the amount of stops the contractor needs to make. Depending upon how difficult this becomes, it may be necessary to charge people a little for delivery.

I will discuss this with the contractor, and when the building is down, and the bricks available I’ll do an update here, and try to coordinate it all.

Again, thanks to everybody for your interest. I’ll be back soon.

Help me look for your email by adding “Brownstoner bricks” to the subject line. I’ll try to keep an eye out for all responses tagged as such.

Please send me your phone number, email & approximately how many you’d want.
