Anyone have advice on companies who can supply and install affordable, durable carpeting in my front entry hall and stairs up to the top floor apartment? Does Home Depot do this?

  1. What is the process to get an estimate? Do they come to you, or do you go to them? How do you measure approx square footage – or yardage? – needs for stairs?

  2. Better Carpet sold us the wrong type of carpet for our stairs a few years ago. their installers couldn’t install it properly and they refused to do anything about it. beware. We’ve had great luck subsequently with ABC carpet – their prices actually aren’t bad and they know what they’re doing.

  3. Home Depot is more expensive with lesser quality carpet than Better Carpet Warehouse on Atlantic in Brooklyn. We had our stairs done in carpet and sound-absorbing pads underneath by Better Carpet. The price psf of the carpet from Better Carpet was half the cost it was at Lowe’s. Better Carpet was also way faster with better service than Lowe’s who we had already used for a large area rug in the basement so I got to compare the two. Better Carpet also has large wool carpet remnants (large enough to do stairs) if you want to go for higher quality carpet.

  4. Home Depot has a few commercial grade carpets, but it ain’t pretty. They do pretty cheap installation, one room for a few hundred bucks. Just call them and ask for the Carpet Dept. and they can tell you if they do stairs.
