We left some furniture in our house during renovation and some of it has dried joint compound (the stuff that comes in those big buckets?) What kind of solvent would remove it – I am afraid if just scrape I will damage the finish of the wood

  1. Once you get the stuff off polish with toothpaste (or cigarette ashes & a couple of drops of water) – mild abrasive helps to polish out mild stains (such as water stains)

  2. Water is fine, if your piece is finished water will not harm it, just don’t let the water pool there for more than a few days and you will be alright. If you still find small amounts of compound in the grain use a thinner lightly on a clean cloth.
