a neighbor of mines just decided to park his car in front of his house, he painted yellow lines on the sidewalk with no Park Parking and just drives his car up the sidewalk and parks it in front of his house. The car doesn’t block the sidewalk but is it legal?

  1. Yes it is illegal you don’t have to go anywhere, just call 311 and make a complaint.
Kepp doing it, get as many of your neighbor’s as you can to call also.

  2. I have a legal driveway and wanted to paint the curb yellow. I called 311 and was told that it is illegal to paint the curb yellow even if it is a legal curb cut. Since my driveway is narrow I painted just the edges yellow anyway.

  3. Go to the Department of Buildings BIS system and enter the address of the property you are wondering about:

    http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/html/home/home.shtml

If there isn’t a permit for the work that looks like this:

    http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/WorkPermitDataServlet?requestid=4&allisn=0001684133&allisn2=0001027976&allbin=3056164&passjobnumber=302289299

…then call 311 and complain. They’ll investigate and post the outcome online.

  4. He would have to file with the DOB to do that. He can’t just cut the curb and paint a yellow line without a permit from the DOB. I would rat him out on that. I hate seeing that in my area. It and it means less available parking too.
