I have a good carpenter, but I need someone to lay out a plan to turn some raw basement space into a crafts/office/TV area. I don’t want an interior decorator who wants me to buy their furniture etc. I want someone who can give me a design so that I can go to IKEA, buy the necessary shelving etc. and use my own contractor to do finish work, electrical and carpentry. Any ideas?

  1. Or you can use an interior designer, not a decorator. They have a degree similar to an architect. They draw precise blueprints and diagrams for your contractor to follow. You may want to find one who specializes in Ikea. If there are issues with clearance, electrical siting, or unusual things to work around such as gas lines, they are very helpful.
