Hi Brownstoners — Could anyone tell me how much it will cost to add a breaker box and seven new electrical lines to a three-story brick and plaster house built in 1900? Thank you.

  1. We paid $6,000 to upgrade a three-story brownstone in 2006; that was including one new box installed in the basement. We used Super Charged of Staten Island and really liked them…in fact, I may call them for a current electrical issue we’re having, which was why I was searching around Brownstoner…just trying to brace myself for new expense!

  2. It cost me about 9K to do a floor, with a new box and wires running down to the basement. However, part of the expense was that the prior owner had installed all the electrical outlets basically touching the floor, which is not up to code and he also didn’t have light switches. So we had to cut about 30+ holes into the plaster to put in new outlets and switches, and then patch that up.

  3. We have a five family building (small apts), and we just finished upgrading all of the apartments. It cost $21,600 for the entire job. We already had the panel boxes in the basement upgraded a few years ago. That part cost us 5,500. We used A. Ceriello electric for the recent work, and were very pleased with the outcome.

  4. Well, I mean, even a rough estimate? I see that completely replacing every wire in a four-story house will cost $50,000 (not including the plastering and painting). We’re trying to decide how much to bid on a house that needs electrical work. Would like to know if it will cost us $5,000 or $50,000. Thank you.
