Howdy, Is there a standard space between the top of a range and the hood (where a backsplash would typically go)? Thanks, Lauri

17″ is the standard distance between counter top and wall cabinets. 30-36 for range to cabinet. Be careful of the 30″ low end: if you are tall and bend over to stir a pot on the back burner, it is likely that you will hit your head on the hood!!
My suggestion is 33″.
30-36 is correct range. it is also good practice to make the hood 6 inches wider than the cooktop ( ie 3 inches on either side) also sizing (CFM’s) the blower and locating it in the hood or outside the building are other important considerations – outside is generally better as it takes the noise away from the kitchen.

I thought the minimum/typical was 17″, but higher looks much better……
Minimum is 30″, max is usually 36″. I believe the minimum is actually in some — if not all — building codes. I think the maximum is generally the accepted height at which the fan becomes ineffective.
