Need back deck 6′ by 12′ entirely out of steel for fire code. Been quoted $7,000 for materials (deck, staircase, railing, etc), but not installation – what have other people paid ???

  1. I used Joe, referenced above. $7k for the steel work and another 5 for the Ipe (sp) and carpentry finishing. Deck’s about 8 by 16. Heartily recommend Joe and my carpenter.

  2. A&J does descent work, my only problem is that it is hard to get a hold of Tony once a contract is in place. He happens to do a lot of work for me. For my last two contracts requiring steel work, I’ve been using a Union welder who works for a Major construction company that I Worked for before opening my own business.
His prices are incredible, if you would like his info you can email me acrcontracting@optonline.net

You could probably save yourself a bundle of money…

  3. Get more quotes. I happen to know that the trades have died (in terms of work). Call Anthony at A&J Ironworks. You can say that Bruce recommended him. Sorry, I don’t have their number here, but they across the street from Monte’s.

His prices are always trade, not retail, as most of his work is for GCs.

It just seems 30% too pricey.

  4. Call Joe Lopopolo at Lopopolo Iron Works, 718 339 0572. My contractor recommended them (they built the iron deck on the back of his townhouse), telling us they did good work for a reasonable price. They gave us a quote that was considerably lower than the other quote we got. Unfortunately, our deck project has been put on hold for now, but if we’re ever in a position to build it, we plan to use them.

  5. It’s best that you get as many bids as you can and get very detailed about what you want. I paid around $10,000 for my all metal deck 8 x 20′, with installation, primed but not painted. I did shop around a great deal and I filed with the DOB. If you want more info and photos of what I had done you can email me through my website under my user profile.
