I just got a quote for some work in my apartment. Part of it was to replace the flooring in my living room/kitchen. The contractor said it would be $4000 for laminate floors, plus an additional $800 to replace the baseboards. I am curious, does this sound right/fair? The total square footage is about 400 square feet. Thanks!

  1. $4000.00 does sound high, for 400 sq.ft, though, it does depend on your sub floor and the product you chosen.

  2. Try my friends at ACR General Contracting, speak with AL or Junior (917) 573-3304. Did that price include materials or just labor for the install?

  3. I think it’s reasonable. Are they going to replace the subfloor or just level it? Seems like for laminate or a typical softwood, $10 psf is the going rate. Get another estimate, though.

  4. Seems too much for plastic. Verrazano did bamboo flooring (much better) for about 8$/sq ft, including underlay. The baseboard quote seems ok for 2 separate rooms.
