Any recommendations for refrigerator repair off warranty? Ours stopped working and I need to get somebody on the job quick.

  1. When my 24-year-old fridge had a problem it was just the fan that circulates the cold air & I fixed it myself for about $15. for the replacement. Usually there are 2 fans – one for fridge & one for freezer. Also, have you done routine maintenance such as cleaning the coils where dust can build up? Sometimes even that can cure the problem. I’ve used AAA or ANS for repairs – they charge for giving an estimate, though.

  2. There is a great fridge/AC repair place on 4th avenue and around 7st on the corner. I believe they are called B&M. They offer great work and a very good price.

  3. What’s wrong with it?

We had three fridges fail in the last 7 years (different apartments).

I am no expert, but in my research when my fridge broke I found that the part most likely to fail is the condenser motor. Replacement part is expensive and laborious to install. So, unless you have a high end fridge it may be totaled.

However, I also found in one case that was a gradual failure, (cooling but not as cool as it used to, and leaking water) vacuuming out the accumulated dust behind and inside the works of the fridge restored it to working order.
