Pond Liner Ideas?
We have a pond in our community garden with a heavy rubber liner. We recently discovered some large tears in the pond lining which are having predictable results. We’re looking at patch kits but I’m wondering if others have experience with durable pond s in backyards?

Sorry when I said several I was talking about at least 10 years.
thanks shayla.
The holes are pretty substantial, I think that an animal got in there and scratched it somehow, since it happened really suddenly: it was full, it was full, it was half full. We filled it, it emptied halfway. We looked around and saw these gashes.
We have a thriving ecosystem in there, which is part of why I’m loathe to disturb it. Our pond is 3 or 4 years old — are you saying we should expect to drain it and replace the liner every few years? Eek!
Its been about 10 years now scene I put in my koi fish pond in my back yard in Bedford Stuyvesant. In the beginning I ran into every problem you can imagine, but once I had a balanced eco system my fish were health year after year and my water is crystal clear, some koi are now great grand parents. A good liner should last you several years as long as you keep it full with water , if you let to much of your water evaporate the rim of your liner becomes exposed to the sun which causes it to dry out and cracks . If you have a crack that is not to big and near the top of your pond you can repair it with clear silicone and a piece of the same mm liner. If you have a hole on the bottom you might have to drain the pond to fix it. You can always tell how many gallons are in your pond my multiplying length times width times height times 7.5
