My clothes dryer was heating but not drying. I usually use Harp Appliance repair but did not want to wait a week or so for a repairman. I called Dial Appliance. Their repair man replaced the heating coil – $200 -in the dryer even thought the dryer was heating. After I paid him and signed for service, he noted on the service receipt “no heat” which was false. He recommended that the dryer vent be cleaned. I called several companies which gave me estimates of $200 to clean the vent. Brooklyn Duct Cleaning, aka Advanced Duct Service, gave me an estimate of $100 to $125. After they finished the service – in less than 20 minutes – they handed me a bill for $295 plus tax! When I protested, the fellow said he would have charged $400 or more in Manhattan. Don’t use either of these companies.
That was what was wrong with the dryer to start with the vent had to be cleaned. I would never charge someone to clean a vent. It takes 5-10 mins.. If i am fixing the dryer how can i do that. How can he tell you to call someone else to clean the vent that is his job. If anyone has any questions i would be glad to help. Call me first dont let anyone rip you off. Pete (718) 344-3362
As the initial poster of this topic, I have to share the name of a wonderful appliance repair person. Peter of Father & Son Appliance Repair
(718) 344-3362. He schedules appointments as soon as possible. His work is excellent, and his prices extremely reasonable. I highly recommend him.
I had the same experience with Dial, they mis-diagnosed my dryer(same as yours), and told me to get the duct cleaned. I did have a fair duct guy who charged me $145.00. That still didn’t fix the problem, so I called Dial back and they wanted to charge me again. I tried to get them to understand that I had already paid them to fix the dryer and it wasn’t fixed, and that they should come back at no charge. They refused, so I went with another company who finally fixed the problem. Dial has poor workmanship and poor customer service.
Next time, call Sears. The service even high end appliances.
It sounds to me as if the duct were the problem. Another time I’d recommend using ANS for an evaluation of the problem – they may charge but they’re legit.
