renting scaffolding
What is a good place to rent scaffolding? The front of my brownstone in Bed Stuy needs repair. My handiman/super says he can do it, but he will need to rent scaffolding

thanks so much. I hadn’t considered the liability issue. The scaffolding would go up in the front yard, not on city property.
Seconding above posters. By Brownstoner standards, I am a risk taker. But I would never rent someone else some scaffolding to work on the outside of my house. People get hurt on scaffolding, especially when they don’t know what they are doing, and the presence of scaffolding screams “Visit me!” to the DOB.
I would find someone licensed/insured to do the work.
I’ve hired many handymen and unlicensed workers but I do not let anyone on a scaffold or on my roof who is not licensed and insured. I would rethink this if I were you; it’s not a place to cut corners.
Yeah, especially with the new NYC building code which tightens up restrictions on sidewalk scaffolding and sheds.
I see waterproofing companies erecting ad hoc scaffolding all the time but they usually remove it at the end of the day.
This isn’t as simple as it sounds. This is a good way to get a violation. Not knowing the building, you probably need a sidewalk bridge or at least a permit for the scaffold if it is on city property. There are some of the usual suspects. Just look at the sidewalk bridges for some companies.
