Dry well installation
I am thinking of installing a dry well to take some of the roof run-off during heavy rains (the pipes can’t handle all of the run-off, so I flood). Any one do this? Any recommendations for contractors? Any sense of the cost? Thanks!

A french drain might be more practical because a roof drain could easily overflow a typical dry well during a heavy downpour, especially during a rainy week.
I put in a french drain with a 6″ perforated pipe around my back yard foundation and it’s worked fine. It’s a very DIY thing too. The PVC pipe is available at HD. Wrap it with landscaping fabric and a few plastic ties, stick it in a slanted trench and cover with gravel.
I actually just put in a french drain (no pipe, just gravel) coming off a gravel patio about 6″ deep which receives the roof run-off in massive quantities. The set up is in reverse – where a drain would normally dump into a drywell, in my case the gravel patio serves as the catch and funnels into the drain (15 ft. long) and percolates into the soil. Working great so far.
We had the same problem and bought a rain barrel, so now the roof run-off goes into there, and then can overflow into another barrel, or the garden. Has worked great so far.
