I need to somehow find a wooden interior double door. Does anyone have any knowledge as to where i could find something like this? I really would like to get them used, but I don’t know where I can get salvaged material like this.

  1. Hi!! I am in Cambridge, England and have a pair of old and stripped internal doors of which I can send you photos. Dimensions are 185cms high and two halves are 49cms width each. They are rather special and hand stripped with mixture of pine and oak wood. Are you interested at all??!! Jenni

  3. To follow up, look for houses with early signs of renovation, like a freshly dropped dumpster. The doors are usually the first things they haul out in order to raise the sides of the container. A friend of mine keeps a tape measure and flashlight in her car and inspects any new dumpster drops, especially outside recently sold homes. Then I get the 10pm call to help her pull out something she found.

Here are the doors I got from interiordoors.com:

  4. Dykes- will make you a door, or will sell you premade ones.

oldegoodthings, demolitiondepot, the brooklyn flea, moon river chatel, and craigslist are all good places to find salvage.

Totally agree with the poster above. I sources much original molding and doors from refuse. If you keep a mental, or written list of things you need and what they’re measurements are, you’ll know when you spot stuff if you should take it home or not. If you live somewhere where a lot of people are renovating their homes, you will often find a lot of architectural stuff thrown out on the ‘big’ garbage night. Take a walk and look around.

  5. Dumpsters. That’s where I found a couple of mine.

Alternatively you could have them made. I bought a pair of five panel solid oak double doors for my bedroom closet from http://www.interiordoors.com. Prehung 1-3/8: door with hardware, ball catches and shipping was $641.00.
