Hello. I live in a 25 foot brownstone (8 units and professional office) and it has been years since we had a new roof. Can anyone recommend a roofer? I received a quote for $14,000 a year ago. Is this reasonable? I want to make sure that we deal with reputable roofers and that their work is guaranteed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Peter from Bensonhurst Construction is amazing. We had our roof redone for that price – including some replacement of damaged joists. The warranty was 18 years – phenomenal. If you want more than that, Peter can offer you a Firestone warranty as well – he’s certified. Call them up. they’re really great.

  2. I just replaced my room with Nick Kontzamanis at Leak Master. He is outstanding. Incredibly reasonable. Very clean and quick and guarantees the work for 10 years. He didn’t try to take advantage of me (like most other contractors) even though I live in pretty nice brownstone in Bkln Heights. There just aren’t a lot of honest and reliable people out there so it’s great when someone like Nick comes along.

  3. I heard only three layers of roofing are allowed to code. We did a 16 layer tear off my extention, It was 7 tons of debris. Welcome to E. Williamsburg maintenance tactics. Clearly it was 100 yrs of roofing. Bldg was owned by the same family for 90 years before we purchased it. Makes you wonder what would have happened had there been a fire….

  4. NICK IS GREAT. And you’ll learn something about your roof too! He won’t do work he’s not comfortable with and will help you find the individuals to fit the scope of the job if he can’t do it. He felt so sorry for me and my disasterously bad roofing job, (done by an unnamable thieving confidance man billing himself as a roofer ) that he caulked all my skylights and didn’t charge me. Good guy. Go Greek.

  5. I used a roofer last year. Saga Contracting(718-437-0034). $3700, but mine is a smaller 3 family brownstone. I remember reading posts last year about how doing a tear off is what contractors do to up the price, but is rarely necessary. Best of luck.

  6. 4:24, this is who I dealt with. Sorry about the misinformation, it was a long time ago. Nick Kontzamanis is great. I have to agree that he is very honest.

  7. I’m a single mom and I own a brownstone in Prospect Hieghts. I know nothing about home improvements and to say the least I’m a “sitting duck” when it comes to dealing with contractors. I have been cheated so many times, that I do my best to do without, just to aviod dealing with them.
About three years ago I had a couple of leaks on my roof. I called four different roofing contractors to look at my roofing problem. Three of the four roofing contractors told me that I needed a new roof. One of the three told me that I needed a complete tear off. The quotes were $5,500, $6,200 and the quote for the complete tear off was $18,500. I found the foutth roofing contractor on this site. Nick Kontzamanis from Leak Master Roofing. 718-421-2000.
Nick assured me that I did not need a new roof and that he could repair my roof for $350. He also told me that my roof should last another five years.
I chose Nick and I’m glad that I did. It’s been over three years now and my roof has’nt leaked since Nick repaired it.
I highly recomend Nick Kontzamanis. He is a great guy and extremely honest.

  8. Used Roofmaster on our roof, I think he advertises here. His name is Rick, he’s greek, knows what he’s doing, is reasonably priced. Won’t try to sell you what you don’t need.

    No complaints!

  9. Based on neighborhood recommendations, Super Roofer did my leaky roof five years ago and it’s been problem free. I can’t recall what I paid but I remember it was a lot less than I thought it would be, especially for a torch-down job (which I gather can no longer be done for fire reasons).
