We have several bags of dirt from work on our back yard…but no matter how light we make the bags the weekly garbage pick-ups continue to refuse to take…

Its not enough to rent a bin (probably 10 bags around 50-60 pounds each), can anyone recommend a pick-up service or drop off location in Brooklyn?

Thanks!

  1. There are a bunch of garbage services out there too; the guy we use is John Kerry at http://www.topspeedenterprises.com. His number is 917 749 3930 and we’ve used him for all our renovation trash (except the first dumpster full which we did ourselves before realizing there was an easier alternative). Cost about the same to rent the dumpster and hire John, and only one of those ways did we have to do all the carrying and heaving…

  2. They are supposed to take trash from small renovation projects. You can call 311 and tell them it wasn’t picked up and they will send someone back to take it.

The garbage men might not like it though. Mine threw the following week’s garbage in my front garden to demonstrate their disapproval.

  3. Dear OP – We may need some dirt for landscaping we’re doing in our backyard. Is this just basic, not-too-fertile Brooklyn dirt? (which could be fine, b/c we’re having some success remediating ours) Or is it nastier than usual? Could you post your email? Thanks.

  4. there’s a 3 or 5 bag limit for renovation debris. when I excavated my backyard about 3 years ago, it took several weeks to get rid of the bags (filled only with dirt and bricks) because sanitation will only pick up a few bags at a time. There’s also a weight limit. check their website or call 311 to find out what the bag limitation is.

  5. “4. Put a little dirt in your pocket every time you go to the park, as you walk around let it trickle out your pants cuff like in prison break movies.”

    Thanks for the laugh.

My trash guys come in the middle of the night/early morning, so I always tape the new years card with tip to the inside of the trash can lid.
