I have a similar question! I am moving into Prospect Heights, and have hired a moving company that uses large trucks. What kind of moving/truck parking permit do I need, and where do I obtain it from?
Actually you can go to your local precinct and ask for such a permit (really a bunch of no parking signs for a particular day). As pointed out, no one does it here because heretofore one could game the alternate side parking. . Whether people pay attention to the signs or not is another thing…
Oh right, so it seems this doesn’t exist — no wonder I couldn’t find it. (Every other city I’ve moved to, and unfortunately it has been a few — has had a little application where you could reserve the space usually used for parking for a moving van for a small fee.) Thanks for the tips!
What is a moving permit? I moved 3 times in the last 7 years and never heard of this at all. The movers show up with the truck, pack it up, and unload at final destination. Am I missing something that would require a permit?

D.O.T. street obstruction permit or something similar, we use them when we need to set up a crane for HVAC equipment etc.
Actually, I did when when my movers requested I do it, and my local precinct (the one at 6th and Flatbush) told me they didn’t do such a thing – ever.

How’s that no alternate side doing in Park Slope?
Solution – garbage cans and an attitude.
4:13, reserve on-street parking? hehe. Surely that would drive up the murder rate.
2:45 is correct, alt parking allowed you to bring the truck up when no cars were on the street. Wouldn’t want to be moving in the SLope right now…
