I am gut renovating a 3 story brownstone, and sadly the tin ceilings will have to go, It’s basically 9 rooms worth of ceilings, and I am trying to find a solution other than simply chucking them into recycling. Can they be reused by someone? Does anyone need pieces to patch a ceiling. Can I sell as scrap metal?

thanks for any advice

  1. I have a decorative box, square, open at the top, that was made from ceiling tins and I love it. It was a gift. I’ve seen picture frames made with them too. You could put them all over the walls of a powder room. Be creative.

  2. 10:45 is right. I have no idea why people feel so sentimental about them.
Be careful of piecemealing your demo as it will cost significantly more. It may cost more to salvage than its worth.

  3. Hey, don’t feel too bad about removing them. They were the dropped ceilings of their day, used to cover the plaster when it started to fail. We think they are charming now, but they are probably not original.

  4. If 12:24 doesn’t take them all, I’ll be doing tin in my kitchen and I’d need about 300 sq ft of reusable stuff. infoATreclaimedhomeDOTcom
