Replacing iron railing w/ wood balustrade
Our house is in a Brooklyn landmarked district. Our front porch has an iron railing, but both the original drawings and a Landmarks Commission document indicate that there was originally (in 1900) a wooden balustrade there. I assume we’d be able to get approval to replace the railing. Any suggestions on who could do that…

I assume we’d be able to get approval to replace the railing. Any suggestions on who could do that work (removing the old and creating the new)? And should I expect that we’d be required to make the new fixture out of wood (all the new balustrades I find online are synthetic)?
Thanks!

thanks for the references….
I used Mack Construction (718-909-7683) for my facade restoration as per Landmarks Commission. They did an excellent job!
The owner is very knowledgable and their price is reasonable compared to many landmark restoration contractors.
Good Luck!
