I skim coated my concrete walls with lime plaster and am just wondering if I should wax them to protect them or not. I am not painting them, as I tinted the plaster. Thanks, Justine

  1. Use Liberon Neutral wax NOT clear. You can get it at Gracious Home. Rub it on with cheese cloth. Enough to cover well but you dont want any chunks. You can always add more. You can buff with either steel wool extra fine 0000 or cheese cloth.

  2. Call mirage studios in long island city they sell venetian plaster products and concrete countertop.Ive bought a wax from them that I used on my venetian plaster that was water based so when I get tired of the finish I can paint right over it.Dirt wipes right off of it and left untreated your plaster will absorb any grime or dirt thsat comes in contact with it.

  3. It can look really great, and is used as 4:01 says in some applications of venetian plaster.

The best wax to use for this is traditionally beeswax, they have tins of it available in the painting section of Pearl Paint (not the Canal st store but the one a block downtown from it).

You’ll experiment a bit until you find the treatment you like. Basically once you wax the walls you decide how much you want to buff them, and this will determine the glossiness of the wall. You can finish the walls more or less uniform for the degree of hand finish look also.

  4. Venetian plaster has marble dust in it I believe. I’m just wondering what happens if I haven’t sealed it in some way and it gets dirty? Use soap and water?
