Recently out toilet has been losing water in the tank. I can hear it trickling in the middle pipe (plumbers- forgive me I don’t know the names). This is the pipe that rises up when you flush. It’s not leaking where the pipe connects to the base of the tank but, somehow traveling through the plastic pipe?
Anyway, that may be irritating but it’s not making any mess. The problem is as the water lever recedes the tank adjusts by refilling itself. When this happens (about every four minutes) the water in the shower shoots up to scalding. Now, everytime I take a shower I’m straining to hear the toilet’s rushing water sound so I can get the hell out of the way. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
yeah, maybe fix the shower, but should still fix the toilet so it isn’t wasting water all the time. duh.
11:06 is correct. The water is running from the tank into the bowl and down the drain and then it keeps refilling the bowl.
However, the scalding water in the shower is a different problem To fix that you need to replace the shower valve to a modern Pressure Balanced type (I think ALL new ones sold are now Pressure Balanced). This compensates for the drop in pressure of the cold water so you don’t just get hot water and get scalded. Unfortunately it requires going behind the tile and taking the old one out and then re-tiling
You need a flapper or flapper valve. that is the round rubber stopper on the bottom middle opening inside the tank that is probably attached to a chain to the flusher. Hardware store has them for $5 tops like the other poster mentioned. The old one should snap out of place and the new one snap in.
You need a new sealer. The rubber thing that keeps the water in your tank. $5 bucks tops
