I need to hire a licensed contractor to do a small job. My laundry closet needs a door where a wall exists, a door put in above the current door & a shelf for storage. Thanks in advance. Michele

  1. If the work is quietly done you might be able to avoid the board requirements.
Just make ure you hire someone experienced at the task.

It is a very small job and the price will be jacked up to accommodate
    the insurance policy.

  2. You’ll have a hard time finding someone. It has nothing to do with $200. A job this small, you probably don’t even need board approval (technically you do, but I wouldn’t bother). You should make sure the person has insurance, though.

  3. I saw on NY1 that a job over $200 should be done by a license contractor. I could be wrong about the dollar amount, in any case, I’m finding it extremely difficult to find someone to do such a small job. In addition, we live in a condo & my husband will not hire someone who isn’t licensed.
