We need to get our water meter fixed. Should we call a plumber? Any suggestions?

I am looking for people who were forced to have new water meters put in by Aqua inc and then in less than two years the meter froze. But no problem for aqua they just make you buy another one of their radio frequency reading meters. Plus pay a 320.00 water bill. If the meter was frozen how did they know how much water I used? Please email me if you had a radio frequency reading meter put in by Aqua that broke. They are a for profit company in many states in the US. I am trying to determine how many of these things are breaking. Please email if yours broke. susan.marx@yahoo.com

Actually, according to the DEP website, THEY are responsible for fixing your water meter:
“Who is responsible for the water meter?
For most small properties in New York City, DEP is responsible for the initial installation, replacement and repair of the meter. There are some occasions where the property owner may be responsible – and all newly constructed or renovated properties must install water meters at their own expense.
Property owners, however, are responsible for protecting the water meter, ensuring it is not damaged by freezing or negligence.
Property owners may also be responsible for replacement of the meter if it is illegally removed.”
So, amend my earlier rant to complain about City empolyees who give out the wrong information 🙂
I knew a water meter reader around that time. He said some of the meter installations were down near the bottom of a small shaft. He, a bulky fellow, had to make his rounds with a wiry sidekick. My friend would more or less hold on to the little guy’s ankles so he could get close enough to the meter to take a reading.
Am I the only one who thinks it’s outrageous that you have to pay for your own replacement meter?
When water meters were first installed [about 20 years ago IIRC] the City selected a criminal enterprise to do the work [remember the Vanguard Water Meter scandel?] and now homeowners must pay to have their incompetant work corrected!

LOL–the problem was with the installing company–NOT the meter readers:
