Looking to have my front porch windows reglazed and or protected by storm windows – does anyone have someone to recommend to reglaze old wood windows or information on storm windows?
Thanks

  1. Safety + privacy = Gated community

Front porches are part of the transitional zone between community spaces and our own homes. They allow for interaction between neighbors and passers-by. Isn’t the rest of your house (and backyard) private enough, without annexing the porch?

  2. I guess you live on the street? (guest) Unfortunately before we bought the house the windows on the side of the porch were rotted beyond repair – it was very dangerous and had to be taken care of – I decided to wall that side in instead of putting in other windows that did not match. Actually the windows on that side had been replaced and did not match to began with. That side of the porch has a tremendous amount of rain and I put in hardiplank on that side – not plywood – also it will be trimmed out but unfortunately our carpenter had to move suddenly due to a family illness and the trim has not been done. Sorry if you don’t like but I have enjoyed the safer front porch and the added privacy the wall has created.

    Or DIY.

The Reclaimed Home website also has a post on this topic.

And congratulations on preserving your lovely old windows. Check the archives here for a post (started by me) about not replacing your windows in the name of energy efficiency.

  4. Please do not replace the windows! I know that’s not your intention, but don’t let them sell you a bill of goods.

BTW, what’s with that plywood wall on the NE side of the porch (the one not visible in photo)? There are no houses on either side of the street that have a solid wall like that–looks not so good. Except maybe that really ugly one on your side all the way down towards 11th Ave. I hate to see these porches boxed in and turned into rooms.
