I have been dealing with these little monsters for almost three years in the New York area…(Phoridae)
They can live in the pipes of your sink and shower drain.
Regular chemicals do not kill them in the drain. What I have read is to scrape the lining of the pipes to get rid of the infestation; they live in sludge build up.
To spray will only kill the adults…the eggs take 14 to 35 days to hatch. The spray will not kill the eggs.
Removing all sources of food will help to control them.
My concern, at this time, is the possibility that they can get inside of a human digestive system, if we injest foods carrying their eggs!
Anyone with any info regarding this problem please contact me @ WML111@Aim.com
The dept of agriculture is releasing them all over the country to control fire ants!!! The Phorid will not stop with the fire ant… parts of Seattle, Washington are already experiencing infestation problems.
The Phorid is a native of South America…we will be sorry for bringing it into the USA!
Do these things bite. Last summer, there was a period of a few weeks when flies like these would appear near/in our yard and house. They would bite like crazy. Thought they were either no-see-ums or phorids. Look like fruit flies, but no red eye.
I couldn’t find the source of the flys.
Dead animals, food, nothing.
It didn’t even smell
I went a bought a regular can of fly spray.
(Didn’t tell my wife, cause she would have freaked)
Went down there with a face mask, closed the door and sprayed them every hr until they died.
Very satisfying
Every once in a while my wife will say, “what ever happened to those fly’s. I’ll look up from my newspaper, and in a very Clark Kent kinda way say “Hmm?, I dont know?”

We had this in our basement. Hundreds of them.
