Help! Window leaking
Help! A window on our top floor is leaking and the water is running down two more floors through the window below making walls wet. What we can we do as a quick fix and what is a long term solution?

OP here. It looks like it was the cauking that may have pulled away from the building. We have leaned out windowns and cauked up all the cracks for now. We are going to see what happens when it rains later this week.
As for hsitory, this has occured in the past when we were renters of the house. It looks like the past owners slapped some black paint sealer around the window and did some cauking. This doesn’t seem like a long term solution to me since it has come back but is this just something we have to continue to redo each year with an old house?
Did you check your rain gutters? If they’re blocked with leaves the water will run down your outside wall and often find a way through to the inside.
I had what I tought was a leak in a window in a greystone in Chicago but it was a failure of the pointing between the stone
Do you have an AC in that window? Ours was installed angling in towards the window and made water run in towards the window all Summer long. I didn’t notice the damage it was doing until it cracked and peeled the paint on the window sill and below.
Be carefull, stick your head out of the window and check the caulking all the way around. If you see any gaps, seal them up.
That will help
yes Ysa, emergency.
“Holly shit, water is POURING into my window.
Gotta run down stairs and post this.
That should fix it quickly.”
