Our coop just had the basement in our basement removed and the pipes re insulated by Leinster Contracting Services after reading recommendations for them on this forum. They did an excellent job for a competitive price. We have been getting other work done and I wish all contractors could be this easy to work with. Our primary contact was Pat Hogan (347-408-9190)
Does anyone have an idea of how much asbestos removal would cost? According to http://accurateinspections.com/asbestosremoval.htm, the cost starts at $800. Does that sound about right for a brownstone basement? Also, is asbestos removal absolutely necessary — either for health reasons or for legal reasons? It seems that we are all exposed to asbestos at some point due its widespread past use. Is there a minimum amount that is not harmful, or is any amount bad? Finally, I was thinking about getting a do-it-yourself home asbestos testing kit to do the test myself. Has anyone had any experience with these kits — do they work? I found this kit online — http://www.prolabinc.com/products.asp?kit=asbestos and it seems to be a reputable company that is affiliated with NEHA (The National Environmental Health Association) and ASHI (The American Society of Home Inspectors). Or would I be better off in getting a licensed professional home inspector to perform the test? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
We hired Pat Hogan from Leinster Contracting this week for Asbestos removal from our brownstone basement. Pat was a total professional with competitive prices. More than his price was his thoroughness and professionalism, which was consistent throughout the process.
We contacted him on Monday and had the job completed on Friday.
He provided copies of all his paperwork and also set us up with an air quality test through a third party.
We would highly recommend Pat’s services.
Good job! Asbestos is a real danger. It’s good to know that there are companies that are really struggling to get asbestos free. My father looks now for a California Mesothelioma Lawyer http://www.efitnesspad.com/asbestos-law-firm.html because he has asbestos cancer due to his company indifference. Even if his boss was warned about the asbestos, he didn’t do a thing about it.
I started getting quotes for asbestos abatement and called Pat /Leinster since I saw recommendations on Angie’s List. (Which I also recommend as a good source). so far, a very amiable and open fellow, prompt and courteous.
I’ve done research on the abatement process. What i never see in these postings is how the air monitoring company was found / pricing & subsequent paperwork. I know the air monitoring company has to be independent from the abatement company. Any thoughts or recommendations? thanks
I got a really huge quote from Leinster and Pat Hogan. $3,500 to remove asbestos from some pipes in the basement and $3,000 to reinsulate them. I thought it was madness.
I’m looking for someone else and I’ll post as I find out more.
I also used Leinster Contracting Services (718-651-9100) based on the recommendations on this forum. They were great to work with and did an excellent job removing our entire basement ceiling and the asbestos from the pipes in said ceiling. Pat Hogan came out to give us an estimate the same day that I called, and he and his crew were able to complete the abatement just a few days later (in and out in a matter of hours). They removed asbestos from an unforeseen additional pipe (which was located during the abatement process after the ceiling was out) at no additional charge. The basement was left immaculately clean. No headaches. Thanks to all who recommended these guys.
Can anyone be more explicit about “fair prices” and “$500 less than the other bid”?
Was that $500 less than $15,000? Or $500 less than $750?
Based on the recs on this thread we hired Pat and Leinster Contracting and were very pleased with our service.
Their price was fair and they were able to set up an appointment within the week.
Firstly, I would like to say thanks to Brownstoner too for recommending ‘Leinster Contracting Services’ to perform the removal of the asbestos.
Pat Hogan and his team conducted a thorough eradication of the asbestos wrap on the pipes in our basement. I must add that he also pointed out 8′ x 8′ of tiles we were not aware contained asbestos and removed them free of charge (ie. he didn’t have to)!
We will update the site with any other positive vendors/services we experience throughout our renovation, we could also recommended who not to use (ahem!)…
