THEY STRIPPED MY ENTIRE HOUSE OF HEAVY PAINT BEAUTIFULLY FAST AND INEXPENSIVLY REALLY NICE PEOPLE
how many doors? if many, then u may want to send them out and spare yourself the misery.
If u continue , after you apply an even coat
of stripper cover it with a sheet of plastic for like an hour and that should make it alot easier.joe salem of woodzone did my doors for $200 ea. and it was hands stripping. His #718-755-6527.
If it doesn’t come to you easily then hire someone to do it for you. Geez, lots of people would welcome the work, just don’t use heat guns, they tend to burn houses down.
Come on, don’t give up now! You’ve been at it for weeks! The door is flat, so the SPR (UV) should be easy, as suggested by Smokychimp. Or you can leave a very thick layer (1/2″) of Rock Miracle on it for about 4 hours and that will take off multiple layers. I just posted a tool comparison on my site this morning: http://reclaimedhome.com/2008/02/12/stripping-paint-heat-gunspr-or-chemicals/
I’m not sure why a door would take forever… it’s mostly flat, right? I guess some of it is technique, some tools. You need an assortment of scrapers and things to get in the weird corners. Of course it helps if they are off the hinges and lying on sawhorses. Or maybe stripping is just not your thing in which case one of the pros might do better, as recommended.
Call Mr. Victor Rojas he is fearless and tireless when it comes to stripping. He even hand scraped (to retain old character) and bleached my old nasty parquet floors – They are now gorgeous!
Buy or rent a UV paint stripper, it can do the flat areas easily. A door with elaborate molding profiles, or glass panes inset, would take a bit of practice and trial and error. But with a UV stripper you can remove the paint on a wood door in an hour or so and it comes off clean.
