We have recently bought a 4 story limestone (1910) in Brooklyn. Most of the original detail is intact but a lot of the wood has been painted. Also, the house needs updated electrical wiring and some of the window frames need to be replaced. We would love to get some suggestions or recommendations on electricians, paint strippers, and window people. Also looking for someone to restore stained glass windows.
Thanks!

  1. my husband contracted the reno of our house and one of our favorite people to work with was rodney taitt. he refinished/stripped our banister, spindles, pocket doors, window mouldings, etc and we couldn’t be happier. he is a very reasonably priced, meticulous, reliable and all around lovely person to have around.

feel free to contact me at 646-641-8438 if you need any more details or contact him directly:

  2. We did a high end restoration but I found some really reasonable, excellent contractors for the following:

Restoration of stained glass windows: Ernest Porcelli. He did an exquisite job on 3 of ours.

Stripping: Progeny restoration (they do GC work also, but they stripped our mahogany central stair, and the finishers were blown away by the quality of the stripping.) Adbul 1888 776 4369.

Window people: If you’re replacing with Marvins, E-Z Tilt (718) 627 0001. I don’t know about other brands or restoring existing windows.

Electrical: Detore Electric. 212 679 1100 Michael Montagnino

  3. we had a lot of woodstripping done a couple of months ago. The guys we used were fantastic, quick, cheap and clean. Their price was about half of other quotes we received. I don’t have their info handy but will dig for it tonight and post it later.

  4. For paint stripping and refinishing, joe salem stripped my shutters, doors , and stairs, replaced some missing balusters and did lots of other restorations for me. He was
very reliable, price was reasonable work was neat and good even though stripping paint is a messy ordeal. You can call him @718-755-6527 http://www.woodzoneinc.com
