Whirlpool Duet Sport Washer/Dryer
Anyone have this combo of stackable washer and dryer. Considering it for my second floor laundry closet because of its compact size and reasonable price. Seems like all of the computer controled washer/dryers have mixed reviews. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the Whirpool duet sport washer and dryer and the mold thing is so silly…if you read the instructions, all you have to do is run the cleaning cycle with bleach and the mold issue will be resolved, also as said above, when its not in use, you just leave the door open to vent.
I love my duet sport. I’ve had it for a year now.
pros
-I love to add garments after I start a wash.
-It has a pretimer, so you can put your clothes in the washer and by the time you come back from work, they are ready to put in the dryer.
-Dryer is huge!
-Noise level is low.
cons
-my rugs and comforters take a long time to dry
I have both the Duet Sport washer and dryer and am thrilled with both. I have a first floor laundry room off of my kitchen with no door in between. The units are so quiet that you can’t even tell that they are running except for when the washer goes into the spin cycle. I don’t agree with the ‘floor show’ comment made by the previous poster. I hardly notice any vibration and the noise from the spin cycle is barely noticeable. Would recommend these appliances to any one!One of the best appliance parts you can have.
We have the Duet Sport & I couldn’t be happier. We did a lot of research before purchasing, and this seemed to be the best for what we could afford. The wash cycle runs longer than on a typical dryer, about an hour. The reason for this is that it spends extra time getting the water out of the clothes. The benefit of this is that it takes much less time to dry the clothes… a cycle full of jeans only takes about a half an hour to dry. They are energy rated appliances, and as CMU says, less detergent and water is needed.
About the twisting, I have no problems with this. It is in fact much better than the top loading type with the agitator. Plus, I can wash more delicate stuff it this washer, since it does not have the agitator to twist everything up. Mine vibrates less than a typical washer, and has only gone off balance once (when some sheets got bundled together in the washer). You have to make sure to adjust the feet on the bottom and have it sitting level. Mine is in the basement though.
Mrs. Limestone, Did you get the Duet Sport washer and dryer? I’d consider getting them for size and economy reasons, too. As a lifelong apartment dweller I’m excited yet nervous because I’m about to buy my first washer and dryer EVER. I guess you could say I’m a washer/dryer virgin.
WE HAVE BOTH THE FULL SIZE DUET AND THE SPORT MODEL AT OUR FLORIDA HOME…BOTH ARE EXCELLENT AND NO PROBLEMS….
THE ODOR IS FROM THE EARLIER MODELS….SPRAY FEBREEZE AROUND THE INSIDE OF THE GASKET AND ALSO WITH A DAMP CLOTH SPRAY FEBREEZE ON IT AND RUB INSIDE THE GASKET AREA ONCE A MONTH…NEVER A ODOR PROBLEM AGAIN….
ALSO THE SPORT MODEL I NOTICED VIBRATED MORE THAN I EXPECTED..NONE THE LESS..THE ARE GREAT MACHINES…IF YOU HAVE THE BUCKS DO BUY THEM…..
I have a maytag and have the mildew problem as well. It’s disgusting. Who wants to wash their clothes in a washer which isn’t clean? It’s like bathing in a dirty hottub. My husband says the gaskets have been redesigned now to allow drainage. Definitely look for that feature. Leaving the door open to allow it to air dry works in summer when it’s hot and only takes a few hours, but I can’t leave it open all the time in winter. I live in a small apartment and bought these because they stack and can be kept in a closed closet. Oh, and they do vibrate quite a bit during the high speed spin, but you can adjust that, it doesn’t go on forever, and it does get clothes much dryer.
Selecting a front loader instead of a top is so much a no-brainer that I wonder about those who choose the latter.
-less water use (but maybe many don’t care)
-less detergent use (as above)
-easier on clothes; we’ve never seen the twisty phenom, in fact I’d expect that from the impeller on a top loader
-dryer clothes outpur, so less energy to dry.
We have Frigidaire, no problems in 5 yrs, 3rd floor install and no significant vibration. Ver minor mildew, solved by keeping door open
Mrs Limestone, I humbly beg your pardon, it appears I am a dunce and unable to name my own washing machine model. It is not the one pictured, it’s a Duet, so perhaps the sport doesn’t have the add-a-garment. Sorry.
