I renovated my first floor apt and put in a new bathroom w/ all new plumbing.. We’ve been there for a year w/ no problems.. Now, when we run the tub/shower we here a high pitched “whistle” that sounds like it is coming from the pipes behind the wall.. Sometimes, even after we turn the faucet off, the sound continues for about a minute.. Is this a serious plumbing problem???
thanks for your help…
That sound usually comes from water moving quickly through a small space.
Plumbers call it “velocity noise”.
The fact that it developed over time may mean that something, like a piece of solder or a valve part, has come loose from the system and gotten lodged somewhere within your bathroom piping.
My advice is to give it time to free itself. If that doesn’t happen, you may have to figure out a way to flush out the pipes or cut into the wall to expose and replace a section of the copper.
