Best place to buy Peel Away 7
About to begin stripping some wood work in my home, and I’ve decided to try Peel Away 7. This stuff is pricey! Any recommendations for the best place (best priced) to buy from? Thanks (I’m not necessarily a cheappo, just trying to manage the budget)…

I use peelaway 6, it works just as well and will save your lungs, I leave it on overnight as well. It is expensive, citristrip is good/cheaper but runny.
I agree, I would not use Peel Away again. I did our living room with peel away 7 and after the fact was told how it can “burn” the wood, leaving it blotchy. I always wondered why the wood would not take the new stain evenly and I found out too late. The wood looks OK, but it is blotchy if you look at it closely. We had many layers of paint and it took at least three applications of Peel Away left overnight. OK, I did recenlty use peel away on a small project because we have two kids in the house now. But I watched it very closely and didn’t leave it on long. And I was only going to paint the wood again anyhow.
I tried all those strippers and now only use the Multistrip products. I mostly use the professional strength Tough2strip and leave it on for a day or so. The only place I’ve found it is Pintchik on bergen & flatbush. I strip the wood and spar varnish it after sanding, sanding and sanding it. alot of other strippers would discolor the wood.
Thank you all.
Ive also used Peel Away and it will not damage your wood. I left it on way longer than it suggests and still no damage at all.
Ive used Schames M and Son paint. They are a family run business and really helpful when you need specific questions answered. They are located at 3 Essex (212) 673-3860
Peel Away 6 or 7 won’t damage your wood. Trust me. I’ve used it on quarter-sawn oak and the grain and color were unaffected. The downside, as you note, is that it’s expensive. Plus it’s slow. It’s not unpleasant to work with, however.
Peel Away 1, which is very strong, may “gray” the wood out a bit, but if you’re going to paint rather than stain, that’s the kind you want. Much more economical. I used Peel Away 1 to strip an entire apartment a few years ago, but the trim was poplar and I was planning on repainting it.
For my current stripping job (the quartersawn oak), I’m mostly using ZipStrip with Peel Away 7 on areas where I have the luxury of letting it sit for a day or so. I did use a heat gun to remove 95% of the paint. The strippers are for the paint left in corners, cracks and highly figured areas.
As for buying Peel Away 7 in bulk, it comes in 5-gallon containers. I’ve seen it at a certain big box store with an orange logo…
My advice is to buy a quart and do a few tests. You may find that it’s too frustrating and expensive for anything but small jobs.
DO NOT USE PEEL Away!… If you want to destroy your wood, by all means, go right ahead. Use either Citrus Strip, a heat gun or a combination of both.
