Thermocrete vs rebuild
Has any one used Thermocrete to seal their flue? After getting a $5K per chimney quote to rebuild each flew (brick & mortar), we had AAA Chimney (they offer Thermocrete) quote “relining” our 1st and second floor chimneys. Cost 10K. Thanks!

Thanks, Rehab.
I did see your photos before I posted this.
Basically, it costs the same ($5k per AAA) per flue using Thermocrete vs a “traditional” relining – so there is a saving on not needing to do cosmetic work. The only benefit I see from using Thermocrete is there is no need to break walls/brick, etc.
Asked for a quote on only one flue (first floor); lets see what they come back with.
Best!
Actually, if I’m understanding from your post that you’re only relining one first-floor flue, and another that begins on the second floor, they’re quoting you even MORE than two grand higher than we paid. To be clear, we relined two flues both on the parlor floor of a 4-story brownstone and converted both of those fireplaces to wood burning for $4K apiece.
Sometimes I feel like I’m running an advertising campaign for Fireside–I’m really not–but that price is $2,000 higher than we paid to have two 4-story flues relined in stainless steel and capped with chimney-top dampers, AND to have two fireplaces converted to wood-burning. I’m just trying to help at a level of specificity (and photography) that wasn’t there when I did the job this past summer. They did good work.
Fireside (their number is in the second, follow-up post) charged us $4,000 apiece for each fireplace–that’s an 8-inch steel liner, chimney-top flue caps, rebuilding firebox and smoke chamber, and lining with firebrick. For the boiler flue, they cut us a deal because of all the other work we were having done, and charged $1500.
For photos of the process, see below links. Rock on.
