Does anyone have a recommendation of someone that can reliably and affordably rewire some old light fixtures and sconces?

  1. Seock Roy of Lamp 25 was recommended to me. He did a great job and seems to be totally comfortable repairing old fixtures such as mine. is number is (646) 486-2039

  2. We had something like this done by one of the big lighting stores on Bowery–can’t remember the name of it, but it was on the southwest corner of Bowery and Delancey.

  3. IIRC there’s a business called “Lamp Doctor” on Coney Island Avenue that does this . However, unless the fixtures are very unusual it’s easier IMO to do this yourself than to bother to bring it somewhere. Almost all American light fixtures have fittings that unscrew easily [European, especially French, fixtures are another story]. All you need is some zipcord, wire nuts, and, possibly, new lamp sockets [all commonhardware store items].

The only old light fixture I’ve ever had to have professionally rewired was a ’20s French Deco one that had European Bayonet sockets that did not mount on American-type 1/4″ nipples.
