Machinist or Metalworker
Looking to permanently connect antique brass door knobs to brass back plate so they can be used as “dummy” door pulls. Needs to be done without welding so I’m thinking a machinist could tool or connect them. Anyone have a recommendation or referral ?

Yes, I’ve just used the knobs and spindle by themselves. Yes, they will turn but they still do the trick. Any welding or brazing will discolor (at best) or disfigure the knobs.
I get all my new hardware from the site above. You can’t beat the hinges and the electric push button light switches.
Scroll down to the “dummy spindles” on this page and see if you think they would work. They may not because of the plate, but you should probably be thinking along these lines rather than a metalworker.
