  1. We used John Beers who completely redid two rooms for us in our building on 11th street – one cornice with a complex acanthus leaf pattern and another with a simpler Federal style molding he also did cooridinating door surrounds, baseboards and window surrounds including redoing the original fold away shutters. Everyone who sees the work thinks its all original to the building when in fact it’s all John’s work. His rates were very reasonable and the work was perfect. His # is 845-863-3394.

  2. Corbin, man-about-town does lots of plasterwork (old-fashioned walls, straight run mouldings as well as very complicated castings). I will try to get his number for you and repost here soon.

  3. Its possible to do it yourself if you’re inclined. There are kits available that allow you to make a rubberized polyurethane casting then cast sections by placing the mold in a sand filled shoebox for support. You will need to size the mold and box according to the “repeat length” of the plaster detail in question. A friend of mine did this himself and said it sounds harder than it was.

  4. Try Hyde Park (www.hyde-park.com). They have a pretty extensive selection of plaster mouldings. Price would depend upon the size and detail of the moulding you need…
