Does anyone have any insight into the different estimates, any recommendations on either company or any recommendations for alternate companies I should contact.
Thks!
Tons of people use A&A Chimney … they were great. Andre – 917-767-6841.
Search the Forum, tons of good reviews.
I searched the forum for ages to find answers on relining my flues and converting two fireplaces to wood-burning, and never found enough info. So when I did the project, I resolved to share it—complete with a ton of pictures. I used Fireside (their number is in the second, follow-up post). We are very pleased.
Anyway, they charged us $4,000 apiece for each fireplace–that’s an 8-inch steel liner, chimney-top flue caps, rebuilding firebox and smoke chamber, and lining with firebrick. For the boiler flue, they cut us a deal because of all the other work we were having done, and charged $1500 (this is a 4-story brownstone.
For photos of the process, see below links. Rock on.

I don’t have it handy but I remember that they are located on Long Island….Nassau I think….try google.
do you have Brookfield’s contact information?
I used brookfield for my victorian in ditmas park. the total cost was 3000.00 for metal lining plus cap on chimney top. it was a very good experience.
call steve at emergency chimney, I just used him to clean chimneys in 4 buildings and he was good to work with. He gave me some quotes for liners and I can say that the total cost was less than the price difference you mention.
I found him through another recommendation on this site and was pleased with the experience. Here’s his website: http://emergencychimneyandboiler.com/
