Stair Runners with Rods and Installation

We are slowly working on our house and one of the many pending issues is to install a new runner with a rod/clasp along the stairway. Where can you find economical options (ideally in Brooklyn)? Is there any type of carpet type that we should look for (or avoid ) ? Finally, do you have recommended installers or do you normally just go with the stores installers…Thanks
