We’re doing some landscaping in our yard and are going to be getting rid of quite a few bags of our old soil. Is that the sort of thing you put out on trash day? I know you call 311 for wood disposal but not sure about soil. Anyone know? Thanks.

  1. I have posted ‘soil’ on this forum twice – 15 bags then 17 bags – all went from my front yard in less than 4 hours! All from backyard reno.

    Easy!

  2. Don’t top-off soil around street trees. The soil level should never be raised above where it is when the tree is planted.

Additional soil can cause damage to the tree. TreesNY 212 227-1887 can help if you have more questions.

  3. You can put it out a few bags at a time as long as they are not going to break the sanitation guy’s back. I did this last year with the rocks from my back yard.

  4. NFN: Why don’t you scout out the tree openings in your immediate neighborhood. They may need an infusion of top soil. I assume your soil is clean. I did this and had people begging me for it.
